Originally titled, "Biden-Obama 2008," this article was revised on Jan. 4, 2008, after Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race. OutsidersDC continues to hope for, and support, an Obama-Biden ticket, and presidential victory. The text of the original article is viewable on page 2.
Senator Barack Obama brings idealism and unity the country needs. Senator Joe Biden brings political experience and expertise in foreign affairs. Together, they can implement intelligent solutions to our most important domestic and foreign
problems.
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."
This infamous quote by Biden, about Obama, is a blessing in disguise. Biden, having lost the Black vote, and Obama, burdened with the "he's inexperienced" objection, absolutely need each other if either wants to occupy the White House.
Biden expressed what many people think of Obama, but are afraid to admit. Many Whites echo Biden, and many Blacks do so inversely -- in the "he's not black enough" manner. Obama lacks the solely "Black" focus of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the black elected officials whom Biden was contrasting him with
when he said "mainstream African-American," and Obama is "clean" in the sense that he is not a trashy whore to special interests.
Too secure to be offended by errors in language, Obama knows the true intent of a remark is more important than spitting hairs over syntax. He is clearheaded enough to see through, and past, petty issues that others get bogged down in, and strong enough to absorb or deflect criticism. Biden is able to admit, apologize,
and amend for error, something American voters wish our sitting president was capable of.
Obama can immediately overcome his experience deficit, and Biden can move the spotlight onto his over-qualifications by teaming with each other.
