I Told You So

The image to the right of this article is a WHOIS record. These are generated
when you register a web site's name. This record is for "Biden-Obama2008.org."
The registration date is November 9, 2006, the day after results were in for the
2006 mid-term elections. The registrant is Eric Silver, the insightful, handsome,
publisher of OutsidersDC, and author of this article who, in a moment of clarity,
and before either candidate decided to enter the presidential race, foresaw a
Biden-Obama presidential ticket for 2008. In this article published last year, I
wrote that Obama and Biden "absolutely need each other if either wants to occupy
the White House." Did I lie?

There was one variation in my prediction: I expected Biden to be the presidential
nominee, and Obama the VP. At the time, I knew little about Obama, and did not
anticipate the level of support he would receive. I believed "attitudes as usual"
would prevail and he would be pigeonholed as a vice presidential pick. However,
like Michelle Obama, I was proud of my country for not allowing race to blind us to
Obama's message, insights, and perspective, which so closely reflect our own.

This is the most important election in American history. It is driven by the
collective will, and need, of the world's people. Both candidates, if pressed,
would likely admit they did not seek candidacy, but the need for their unique
presence was thrust upon them, and they had no choice but to accept the
responsibility. Indeed, the Obama campaign is the most successful and brilliant in
history precisely because it is resonating to reality, not trying to shape it.

The machinations of party apparatus, the "wisdom" of pundits, the spin of media,
and the distortions of the McCain campaign will have no impact on the outcome:
Barack Obama and Joseph Biden will be elected to manage the monumental tasks
of safely steering the ship of state through the orderly collapse of the American
economy, and the resultant contraction of American power in the world.

They are the only men capable of repairing the damage done to the country, and
the world, by the departing administration, and the only ones who will bring
credibility, and decency, to the White House. They will remind Americans of the
cyclical nature of economies, and the natural progression of social/cultural events,
and motivate us to not cling fearfully to a familiar, yet obsolete past, and move
courageously forward to a dynamic, exciting, and more prosperous future.

Bravo, Barack.
